In private practice in Chicago since 1993, Todd M. Van Baren represents individuals, families, and business owners, focusing on estate and tax planning, corporate matters, and real estate transactions.

Todd handles a variety of projects for estate planning clients, including the preparation of wills, trusts, powers of attorney and other estate planning documents; forming family limited partnerships; creating life insurance trusts, generation-skipping trusts, qualified personal residence trusts, GRATs and dynasty trusts; forming and operating charitable foundations and non-profit organizations; and advising on estate and trust administration.

Counseling clients on closely held business matters, Todd’s practice also includes advising family businesses and their owners on corporate succession planning, intra-family transfers, buy-sell agreements, business sales and acquisitions, non-compete agreements, and other business contracts.

Todd’s extensive experience in real estate transactions includes consulting on sales and purchases, commercial closings, leasing for both landlords and tenants, mortgage financing and loan documentation, residential developments, condominium law, tax-free exchanges, ground leases, construction contracts and easement agreements.

Todd is licensed to practice in both Illinois and Indiana.
